SLIDA celebrated her 38th Anniversary

SLIDA celebrated its 38th anniversary in the main auditorium on the 21st of August 2020 with the participation of all the members of the management, Faculty and all the support staff.

Although SLIDA completed the 38th year in May this year, the celebration had been postponed due to the pandemic situation of the country. At the very beginning the Academy of Administrative Studies for training of Public Service had been established in 1966 with the leadership of the famous Civil Servant Dr. H.S. Wanasinghe at Glen Arbour Place, Colombo 04 and later it was shifted to the present place at 28/10, Longdon Place Colombo 7 .in the year 1968 with much more facilities.

In 1970 the Institute was established under the preview of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs and Local Government and it was designated as Sri Lanka Institute of development Administration in 1979 .Later the Institute was incorporated as a Government Corporation under the Act number 09, in 1982 as amended by Act No 22 of 1997.

SLIDA commemorate the 38th Anniversary of its establishment as a Corporation, even though the history goes back to the year 1968.

The function was organized by the Welfare Society of SLIDA with several events related to the objectives of the Society. The President of the Society and the Director General of SLIDA Mrs Kumari Jayasekara delivered the welcome speech and the explanation of the objectives of the function. Mr D. Wijekoon `` Senior Consultant and the Head of the Research Centre, the Vice President of the Welfare Society presented “Apa A Gaman Maga “the document which dedicated the past path way of SLIDA.

Accepting the invitation made by the Welfare Society, An attractive Musical Therapy program was conducted by Dr. Mahanama Wickramasinghe, Senior Lecturer of University of Aesthetic Studies for two hours.

At this event SLIDA made arrangements to appreciate the service rendered by three officers retired from the service and three Program Officers who were released to the public service after completing their seconded period at SLIDA.

Welfare Society presented four Scholarships to the children of the SLIDA staff , namely two fellow ships for two little children who successfully completed grade Five Scholarship exam in 2019 , and for one girl child who obtained nine A s for the G.C. E .( Ordinary level Examination) and one student who has been selected to the University of Wayamba according to the results of the G.C.E. (Advanced Level )Examination.

After all these event all the staff enjoyed the lunch offered by the Welfare Society after wishing further development and best of Luck for an excellent future.

SLIDA did not organize any outside activities violating the instructions and guidelines given by the Health Sector during this world wide Pandemic era.
